I am proud to present "Space Patches – A Journey Through the Cosmos", a comprehensive, fully illustrated 672-page ebook that gathers over 1,300 space mission patches from across the world and across more than six decades of spaceflight. This publication spans not only human space missions, from Vostok, Gemini, Apollo, and Soyuz, to Crew Dragon, Shenzhou, but also a vast selection of robotic and scientific missions launched by space agencies and emerging private companies.
From the moment Yuri Gagarin first orbited the Earth to the latest missions launched by SpaceX, CNSA, ESA, and other space faring organizations, the history of space exploration has unfolded not only through technology and discovery, but also through visual storytelling. One of the most enduring, and perhaps under appreciated, expressions of this story is the space mission patch.
Each mission patch is more than just a design on a flight suit or a decal on a rocket fairing. It is a symbolic snapshot of a mission’s identity: its goals, its people, its era. These emblems mark milestones in science and human ambition, from the Cold War space race to international collaboration aboard the ISS, and from robotic explorers on distant planets to private companies reaching for orbit and beyond.
The ebook is the result of many months of research, curation, and visual documentation. It was created not for profit, but out of a deep respect for the pioneering spirit of space exploration and for the incredible community of enthusiasts, historians, designers, engineers, and astronauts who keep this legacy alive. Every patch in this collection represents a mission: some famous, some forgotten; some triumphant, others tragic. Together, they form a visual language of aspiration, science, and exploration, one that transcends borders and generations.
In assembling this collection, my goal has been to preserve the art, the meaning, and the memory embedded in these small yet powerful designs. I hope that it will inspire curiosity, reflection, and perhaps even a sense of connection to the missions that have shaped our presence in space.
You can explore a preview of the book and download the full version from the links below. If you find the project valuable, I would be grateful if you shared it with others who might enjoy it. And if you spot omissions, errors, or have ideas for future editions, I welcome your input, this is a living document, and your feedback helps it grow.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
